A FIRE AND A HOUSE
A long time ago
well some time ago
there was a fire
a great big fire
In this house
it was your house
but now it's gone
everything's gone
There was this kid
a smart little kid
but then he left you
to do
And what he did
I'll tell you what he did
he made the world move
and he hurt you
Was it worth it?
Everything he did?
Cuz he left the house
and he burned it down
NOSFERATU
This is the song he wrote
about falling asleep in the snow
and letting go
Poor poor Nosferatu
It would be nice to be misunderstood
but everybody knows
what you're up to
This is the song I sang
about sleeping upside down like a vampire bat
Would you look at that?
And now I'm
I'm on Nosferatu's side
and I would bleed myself dry
if you needed a drink
cuz you make me think
Well I could love any one but you
and I accepted everyone except you
EMPTY ROOMS
Don't I love empty rooms?
And don't I hate furniture?
I'd love to keep you on the phone
but you better go
follow your friends around
They're sniffing the next case down
And I admit
I've ridden with them
slinging the liquid from fridge to fridge
as they obtain affirmation
by visiting still more friends
So what business do I have here?
Isaac and Kazaya
make a teepee of the bed sheets
There's no place
that I fit into your life
I've looked there's no place
that I reconvene with your days
We'll say it's better this way
But did you know?
Did you know?
Did you know the glass in your mirror
is slowly dripping downward?
Did you know that your reflection
is the exact opposite of what you look like?
So I guess I love empty rooms
I must hate filling em
I'd love to sit you down
on the bare floor
and build all of the reasons
THEN I GRINNED LIKE A GRINCH
Everyone suffers
The cake fell to the floor
icing first
The world is over
We are memories
inside a cloud of dust
So I made the statement in blue ink
I scrawled the address on the envelope
I grinned like a grinch
who just ate a child
or just ate a mother
and left the child for dead
four score dead
The sea was calm
Travel was easy
and we took a swim
I was angry
too many broken instruments to play
So I threw piano keys made of ivory
from a trash bag at my enemies
I grinned like a grinch
who throws down spiders
and throws down snakes
from the tops of trees
spinning top
lop your head off
COME DOWN
Come down
dumb down a little
We want to know you
We want to show you
Around
Come down a while
We want to love you
We want to touch you
We stand on the
Ground
Come down a little
We want you to stay
to hear what you have to say
Come down
And when we saw you at the show
we forgot to say hello
Things in there were very loud
so we lost you in the crowd
We want you to know
TOOTH
I'm giving up on being a ghost
cuz when you're living other people can touch you
I'm getting in with the host
training up for the talk show circuit
I'm walking cross town to be with my lover
cuz every other day is better than never
What is mystery what are the blues?
I'm sitting down in her kitchen putting on my shoes
I'm giving up on being a ghost
cuz when you're living other people can touch you
I'm getting in with the host
training up for the talk show circuit
I'm walking cross town to be with my lover
cuz every other day is better than never
What is disgusting what is real life?
I'm sitting down in her kitchen sharpening a knife
DEMONS
Demons were making me deals
and I marched around the barren garden
telling winter if I can't be an artist
I'll just die
Oh I'll just die
One morning I woke to rotting walls
and this brown girl eating an apple
My genius friend
laughed on his way
to the city
as I walked her
to the cemetery
to lay twenties
on stone roofs
and remove her childhood
Isn't this a pretty ribbon?
Probably
absolutely
never running early
She's gonna ride your back
We've got squat white candles someplace
I only need em for a quick second
GHOST DANCE
Sleeping with the lights on
the door opens itself
Wind dances through the room
rifling through your child's trinkets
Your dreams are in the voice
of all those books you read
The wild child voice has been suppressed
Better go up on the mountain and catch it
A POISON APPLE LYING ON THE FRONT LAWN
Just like the old house with baby raccoons in the attic
your leg fell through the ceiling
I was watching cartoons in the other room
I didn't hear a thing
Look it ma I'm in college
I'm up upon the ceiling
my legs are losing feeling
Don't worry if you flunk out of school
just go to the doctor
You're crazy you're stressed god damned right you're depressed
You would've passed that test
if they'd give you some medicine
Don't worry if your voice stumbles along
when you try to sing a song
don't stare so long in the mirror at your disappearing reflection
Let's try and play a song it all sounds wrong
let's sit out on the brick
Let's smoke a cigarette and think about it
It all started with a poison apple lying on the front lawn
you couldn't help yourself
you picked it up
